A draft does not always mean a window needs to be replaced. Air can enter through worn weatherstripping, gaps around the sash or perimeter joints, while other symptoms can point to frame damage or a failed overall unit.
NY-GoodHome handles window-weatherproofing requests in Brooklyn and New York City. Call (223) 226-1828 with photos and describe where the draft or air movement is noticed.
Where Drafts Come From
Weather seals around moving sashes can wear or compress. Perimeter joints can crack. Hardware or frame movement can also prevent the window from closing tightly.
The correct repair depends on the source, so adding caulk everywhere is not a substitute for diagnosing the opening.
Sealing vs Frame Damage
A small perimeter gap can be a sealing issue. Soft wood, movement or wide deformation belongs on Window Frame Repair. A sash that will not close may require General Window Repair before new weatherstripping is useful.
Water and Condensation
Weatherproofing can address common air gaps, but it does not guarantee resolution of facade leaks, roof problems or interior condensation caused by broader building conditions.
If the whole window is failing, use Window Installation & Replacement rather than repeatedly sealing a unit that should be replaced.
