An interior threshold can become a trip or mobility barrier when adjacent floor surfaces sit at different heights. Reducing that change depends on the flooring materials, substrate and door clearance rather than simply removing a transition strip.
NY-GoodHome accepts threshold-lowering requests in Brooklyn and New York City. Call (223) 226-1828 with photos from both sides of the doorway and approximate height difference.
What Creates the Height Difference?
The transition may be a removable threshold, a reducer between two floor finishes or a more permanent change in subfloor level. The solution should follow the actual construction.
Flooring and Door Clearance
Tile, wood, vinyl and other floors can meet in different ways. Lowering or replacing a transition may also affect the bottom of the door and surrounding trim.
Use the Flooring category when a larger floor replacement is needed.
Structural and Exterior Boundaries
This page is for interior floor transitions. Exterior thresholds have weather and water-management requirements that should not be reduced casually.
Major subfloor reframing or slab changes are also beyond routine threshold adjustment.
Broader Accessibility Project
If the threshold is one of several barriers, use the Mobility & Aging-in-Place page to coordinate doorways, rails, bathroom safety and other changes.
