A fence should be structurally sound before new paint or stain is used to improve the finish. Loose boards, rotten sections or failed posts belong to repair first; coating should not be used to hide deterioration.
NY-GoodHome handles fence painting and staining requests in Brooklyn and New York City. Call (223) 226-1828 with wide photos, close views of peeling or weathered areas and the existing finish if known.
Paint or Stain?
The best direction depends on material, existing coating and the appearance you want. Stain often works with suitable wood surfaces, while paint creates a more opaque film.
If the fence already has a coating, compatibility and surface prep matter more than simply selecting a new color.
Surface Preparation
Dirt, loose coating and weathered material need to be addressed before a new finish is applied. Cleaning, scraping or sanding requirements depend on the existing surface.
Power washing can be part of preparation where appropriate, but excessive pressure can damage wood and should not be treated as a universal cleaning method.
Repair Before Finish
Damaged boards, loose rails or post issues should be repaired first. Use Fence Installation & Repair when the physical fence is the main problem.
