Material and Fabrication Status
Laminate, wood, solid-surface and stone products do not arrive at the job in the same state. Stone often requires professional templating and fabrication before installation.
Stone fabrication and specialty templating are confirmed separately when the selected countertop material requires them.
Cabinet Support and Level
Cabinets need to be suitably aligned and secure before a new top is installed. A countertop should not be used to compensate for badly out-of-level or damaged base cabinets.

Sink and Cooktop Cutouts
Cutouts have to match the selected sink or appliance. The sink itself and any plumbing connections are separate service scopes.
Backsplash Transitions
The final counter position helps define the bottom edge of a backsplash. If custom glass is planned, final backsplash measurement should follow the stable countertop installation.
