Replace Existing or Add New?
Replacing an existing receptacle at the same location can still require evaluating wiring, grounding and the condition of the box. Adding an outlet in a new location can require new cable, circuit capacity and wall access.
Those should not be presented as one identical task.
Standard, GFCI and Other Receptacles
Kitchens, bathrooms, exterior areas and other locations can have specific requirements. GFCI, AFCI, USB and smart receptacles are not interchangeable simply because they fit a similar wall opening.
The selected device must be appropriate for the location and existing electrical system.
Grounding and Wiring Conditions
Older wiring or ungrounded conditions can change the job substantially. NY-GoodHome does not promise that a simple device swap will correct underlying electrical deficiencies.
