A barn door slides across the face of a wall, so the wall needs enough clear length and suitable support for the track. The door also needs to be wide enough to cover the opening while avoiding switches, trim and other obstructions.
NY-GoodHome provides barn-door installation in Brooklyn and New York City. Call (223) 226-1828 with the door and track system, opening dimensions and wall photos.
Door Width and Track Length
The door should cover the opening when closed, and the track needs enough length for the door to clear the opening when open. Baseboards, casing or wall-mounted objects can affect how close the door can run to the wall.
Measure the opening and the available slide area before ordering the system.
Wall Support
Barn-door tracks create loads along the wall. The manufacturer’s mounting requirements should be followed, whether the system uses direct structural attachment or a header board.
New structural blocking or major wall reinforcement is not assumed. If the wall does not provide the required support, that becomes a separate carpentry scope.
Guides, Stops and Hardware
Rollers, stops, floor guides and handles determine how the door moves and where it stops. The floor guide should control the bottom of the door without creating an unnecessary trip point.
For a door that disappears into a wall cavity, use Pocket Door Installation instead.
